Copperfield’s Books and Read On Sonoma are honored to welcome literacy advocate and motivational speaker Oliver James for the launch of his powerful new memoir – Unread: A Memoir of Learning (and Loving) to Read on TikTok!
Oliver will be joined in conversation by beloved friend and local librarian, Mychal Threets. Join us for an unforgettable evening of literary insight followed by an audience Q&A and book signing with photo opportunities.
All event proceeds will be donated to local non-profit and vital literacy initiative, Read On, Sonoma.
This is a free event, registration required due to limited seating.
Author: Oliver James is a California-based personal trainer, motivational speaker, literacy activist, and influencer. He has been featured in or on Today, NPR, Jennifer Hudson Show, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Rachael Ray, and ABC News, among many others. Additionally, he is the recent recipient of the 2023 Barbara Bush National Literacy Award. He lives in Costa Mesa, California.
Mychal Threets is a librarian, literary ambassador, and the library’s number one fan (according to himself, admittedly). He was raised in his local library as a home-school kid and grew up in Fairfield, CA, right between Sacramento and San Francisco. Online, he shares videos of affirmations to assure people that their mental health always matters, and he encourages everyone to know they belong at the library. A former PBS kid himself, Mychal is proud to serve as PBS resident librarian. I’m So Happy You’re Here (coming 2/3/26) is his first book. His cats, Machine Gun Kitty and Kissin’ Kat Barlow, did not help at all, but he still appreciates them.
