ABC Radio Garth Brooks is voicing his support for Saturday’s student-organized March for Our Lives.
During Monday night’s episode of Inside Studio G on Facebook, the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year read a letter he’d received from Parkland, Florida shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez.
“I believe the young people in this country can change the world. And wouldn’t that be something?” the Stoneman Douglas High School student said.
“It’s yours!” Garth responded, encouraging Emma and her peers to “take it and shape it.”
“Be tolerant. Be loving. And don’t let hate win,” he added.
Garth went on to perform an unrecorded song he’d written with Tony Arata, who helped him craft his classic, “The Dance.” The song contains the line, “to matter then, it must matter now,” which Garth says reminds him of the students who’ll be marching Saturday.
Seventeen people were killed during the Valentine’s Day shooting at the Florida school. Supporters from all across the country will join the Parkland students on Saturday as they march on Washington to call for improved gun control and school safety measures.
