Harper Smith for Big Machine RecordsJust as Midland gets ready to compete for two Grammys at this weekend’s ceremony in New York City, the trio is giving fans an inside look at the making of their breakthrough record.

“It’s like this super team where everybody’s working to bring the song to its full potential,” lead singer Mark Wystrach says of creating their debut disc, On the Rocks. “This album is soaked in blood, sweat, tears and booze.”

“We took a lot of care to create a landscape of songs, an overall concept for the album, and to hopefully bring albums back a bit,” Jess Carson adds.

Meanwhile, Midland is set to play their second single, the Top 15 hit “Make a Little” Tuesday on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. You can watch for them starting at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.

Then on Sunday, the band competes for both Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys. Both nominations are for their debut single, “Drinkin’ Problem.” You can catch the show live from New York City, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
